English Homework Expectations

Weekly Spellings

Children receive weekly spellings to learn at home. Children are tested each week in school. It is a good idea to practice these daily if possible.

Spelling Menu

A spelling menu with 35 different ways to practise for KS2 children. This is a combination of various spelling menu ideas brought together in one document. Most activities should be easy for children to access at home and there are lots of examples of how to complete the task for them to refer to.

Reading for Pleasure

Children are encouraged to read for pleasure. This can be anything from newspapers, to posters and recipes. Reading for pleasure is very important to us here at Grovelands. We believe that if children are given time to both read high quality books and hear them being read out loud it will ignite their imaginations, improve their writing and most importantly encourage their love of reading.

why can't i miss my 20 mins of reading tonight

Writing

Children are also encouraged to use Purple Mash to support their writing skills at home. There are many creative writing activities and tasks available for the children to explore and use. Teachers may allocate tasks to their class as part of their weekly homework expectations.
