Maths Homework

Maths Homework

Our maths homework is for children in Key Stage 1 to practise their skills in place value, addition and subtraction and to learn their 2, 10 and 5 times tables so that they are fluent. In Key Stage 2, children need to learn their times tables to 12 x 12 so that they can be fluent with these when solving calculations. Times tables should be practised weekly and your child will have a test in class. Please use the programmes detailed below to practise.

In KS1 and Year 3, pupils develop their number fluency using the Numbots programme.  The wide range of activities and games support every child in achieving understanding, recall and fluency in mental addition and subtraction as they move from counting to calculating. The programme complements what your child is learning in school and focusses on securing any gaps in their knowledge, before moving them on to the next challenge.  This self-paced journey improves children’s confidence and means they are fully prepared to tackle each new topic. We recommend playing for at least 3 minutes a day, 4 or 5 days a week.

Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)

Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times table practise for children in Year 3 – Year 6.  Children from Year 2 onwards are expected to be able to recall multiplication and division facts.  By the end of Year 4, they should be able to recall all facts for multiplication tables up to 12x12. We recommend that children in Key Stage 2 spend 5 minutes a day on TTRS to maximise its impact.

1-minute maths!

Check out these 7 top reasons for using 1-minute maths! Excellent practice – and no distractions. A clear, intuitive process that children pick up straight away. No login or internet access needed. Just download and play. Enjoyable and motivating… How many can they get correct in one minute? Helpful hints match those used in class. Brilliant for building number fluency and confidence. It’s FREE!  Children can choose any topic they want to try. They then answer a unique series of questions (so it’s a different set of questions every time). If they’re struggling with a question, a ‘Hint’ button will give a helpful clue by showing the question in a different but familiar way. When the one minute’s up, they’ll see a feedback screen telling them how they’ve done.

Purple Mash

Every child will have a Purple Mash login and be able to access the wide range of times table activities and games it has to offer.

Pupils in year 4, preparing to take the multiplication check can access a practise check on Purple Mash. We recommend your child accesses the check for 5 minutes every day.
