Transition to Secondary School

The main schools that Groveland pupils transition to for their secondary education are:

1
Hailsham Community College
1
The Turing School
1
Willingdon Community College
1
Heathfield Academy.
1
Kings Academy, Ringmer.
1
Ratton School
1
The Eastbourne Academy

In Term 1 these schools invite parents and pupils to attend meetings and open evenings to get a flavour of the school. This is also an ideal opportunity for parents/carers and pupils to ask any questions about the school they may possible attend.

To ensure that your child has a smooth transition to secondary schools we undertake the following activities:

1
Transition activities with all pupils during Term 6.
2
Targeted support for some pupils who may find change and transition to a new school difficult.
3
Pupils visit their new secondary schools.
4
Staff from the secondary schools visit Grovelands to discuss the pupils and their needs.
5
All records including academic and pastoral are shared with the secondary school.

You will need to apply for a place at the school you would like your child to attend – it doesn’t happen automatically.

You can name up to 3 different schools. Listing more than one:

1
won’t affect your first preference – admissions always offer the highest they can
3
will increase your chances of an offer at a school you prefer.

When to apply

4
Apply online from 12th September 2023
5
The deadline for applying is 31 October 2023

What happens if you apply late

5
If you apply after the closing date, the application will not be processed on time. This may affect your chances of securing a preferred school. If you move into the area after the closing date you should apply for a school place as soon as possible. If you send evidence of your house move at the same time admissions may be able to consider the application as being on-time. Admissions must receive your form and evidence by 31 January 2023. If you apply after this date there is likely to be a delay in response.
