Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium, boosting the attainment of pupils

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is funding allocated to schools for the specific purpose of boosting the attainment of pupils from low-income families, for supporting children with parents in the regular armed forces, as well as those currently, or who have ever been, in Local Authority care.

Funding is allocated to children who are currently on Free School Meals (FSM) or have been on FSM at any time over the last six years (the Ever6 measure), to those with families in the regular armed forces, to children currently in Local Authority Care or children who have been in care in the past.

Why has it been introduced?

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. Whilst schools are allowed to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit, the Government requires that a report of how the Pupil Premium has been spent, including the impact of that expenditure, is produced each year.

Please read the information below which gives details of our Pupil Premium grant and how we allocate the funding.Funding is allocated to children who are currently on Free School Meals (FSM) or have been on FSM at any time over the last six years (the Ever6 measure), to those with families in the regular armed forces, to children currently in Local Authority Care or children who have been in care in the past.
