Year 6 Curriculum

Term 1: A ‘Hiccup’ in Hastings.
Term 2: Storms and Shipwrecks.
Term 3: Carnival!

The children will bring home the list of words for Year 3 and 4 and Year 5 and 6 from the National Curriculum at the beginning of the year. Please continue to revise spelling these words. A selection of these words will be tested each term.
The children will be given 10 weekly spellings per week. These will be given out once a term, clearly dated and will relate to our spelling work in class. We will be testing these words during our spelling session on a Wednesday.
Children are expected to read EVERY night for approximately 20-30 minutes. Please encourage your child to log into Bug Club so that they can read the online books and carry out the activities.
Maths homework is to use the resources on 'Purple Mash' to practise times tables and the associated divisions. We are no longer doing ‘MyMaths’.
Each term it is expected that the children create a piece of homework linked to their topic. This will be to develop skills other than English and maths and should be completed by the end of the topic.

We expect our children to behave in a polite and thoughtful manner to all members of the school community.

The Key Stage 2 (Statutory Assessment Tests) take place from 11th-14th May 2020.

PE kit:

Please could we have PE kit in school at all times.
All PE items should be clearly named.
The day PE is on will change for different terms for different classes.
Children are allowed to wear tracksuits for winter PE outdoors.
Some sessions during the year will be taken by Grovelands Active with the support of the class teacher.
